Materials and Visibility

RealFlow's implementation of Maxwell Render comes bundled with a set of standard materials:

Node selection > Node Params > Maxwell Render > Material

Material files carry a MXM extension. By default, materials cannot be edited or changed in RealFlow. To do this you need the Maxwell Material Editor. This tool is only available with the Maxwell Render Suite, and not part of your RealFlow distribution.

The RealFlow's library can be extended with materials from the Maxwell Render Resources website. All you have to do is to register, and download your favourites from several thousands of free materials:

  • We recommend using a dedicated repository for your external materials.
  • When a node's material is changed while using → "Maxwell Interactive" the render will be restarted automatically.

Exclude and Include Nodes from Maxwell Render

By default, a node's render visibility is set to “Same as display” (Selected node > Node Params > Maxwell Render > Renderable). This means that if the node is visible in the viewport it will be rendered and vice versa.

It is also possible to control a node's render visibility independent from its viewport status:

  • Select the node(s) you want to enable/disable for the render.
  • Display shelf > Render with Maxwell Render | Hidden from Maxwell Render

The "Render with Maxwell Render" and "Hidden from Maxwell Render" icons.
