Daemons - Layered Vortex
This daemon acts on several layers. Each layer contains independent vortex parameters, and represents a zone where the particles can rotate with different velocities and directions. It is comparable to gas bands appearing on planets like Jupiter.
In the viewport, the daemon appears as a line of points. Each time you select a layer, a different segment is displayed, indicating its zone of influence. All parameters should be adjusted with the settings under “Layered Vortex”, because they directly affect the forces. We recommend enabling the “Show field” option under Node Params > Display Force Field for a visual representation of the daemon's forces.
Affect
There are two options:
- "Force" accelerates the particles and they become faster and faster as long as the force is acting on them.
- “Velocity” only works with particles and adds the daemon's "Strength" value to a particle's speed. The resulting peak velocity remains constant during the simulation.
An example: Let's assume the daemon's "Strength" is 9.8 and the emitter's "Speed" value is 2.0. Here, a particle's velocity will be roughly 11.8 m/s.
Num layers
The vortex layers are created between the viewport gizmo's points: the three default points indicate two layers. Increase or decrease the value to add or remove layers. You can browse through the layers with “Current layer. Each layer is represented by a line and a small vortex icon.
Offset
This value describes the offset of the lowest layer from the daemon’s pivot point in metres.
Current layer
Select a layer with this parameter and change its properties with the associated parameters.
Vortex type
“Classic” creates a homogeneous force field. With “Complex” the forces reach their peak strength at a given distance (= “ Radius”) from the centre. This distance is displayed as a dashed circle line around the centre. The type of each layer can be adjusted individually by changing “Current Layer”.
Strength
The is the daemon's rotational force strength. Negative settings create a counter-clockwise rotation, positive values are responsible for a clockwise rotation. 0.0 disables the daemon.
Radius
To use this setting,”Vortex type” must be set to “Complex”. “Radius” determines the distance from the vortex centre in metres where the forces reach their maximum. Each layer 's “Radius” can be adjusted individually by changing “Current Layer”.
Width
This value is a layer's thickness or bandwidth. Each layer's “Width” can be adjusted individually by changing “Current Layer”.
Bounded
If you want to restrict the scope of a layer please check this option. Each layer can be adjusted individually by changing “Current Layer”. A circle indicates the boundary's dimension (= "Boundary").
Boundary
Change the size of a layer's zone of influence indicated by a circle. The value is measured in metres.
