FAQ - MultiBodies

What is a MultiBody node?

A MultiBody is an object that can contain many objects in one node. All properties are common for all objects in this node (such as color, transformations, etc.) When a MultiBody is converted to a rigid or soft body, each object can be independent from the others – and each object’s mass will be controlled by the "Density" parameter of the "Rigid body" or "Soft body" panel.

Do imported MultiBody nodes allow animation?
No. In order to import an SD with animation, you must import it with the SD import option. Exported MultiBodies, however, support animation.
Why should I use a MultiBody instead of an SD import with a lot of objects?

If the scene does not contain animation, a MultiBody allows you to load thousands of objects in just one node. On the other hand, if you import the objects using SD import you will end up with thousands of individual nodes in RealFlow.

Are objects treated as individual nodes in a MultiBody with dynamics properties?

Yes, they are. Each object has a mass, which can be changed by modifying the "Density" parameter if the MultiBody node.

Do daemon forces affect the nodes in MultiBody node?

Yes, they do. Daemon forces will affect the objects inside of the MultiBody.

Where can I see the mass and volume for each individual object in a MultiBody node?

This is shown in the "Summary Info" entry under the "File" menu.

How is the animation for the Multibody node saved?

It is saved like a normal SD in the "animation.sd" or an individual node-based SD file.
