RFConnect | 3ds Max
The following chapters contain a description of the 3ds Max connectivity plugin set. With these tools it is possible to exchange data between RealFlow and 3ds Max – you can export objects from 3ds Max to RealFlow and vice versa. The imported objects and particles are then shaded and rendered. RealWave surfaces and animated objects are supported as well. At the end of this document you can find tutorials explaining various aspects of the workflow and new objects introduced by the plugin.
Frequently Asked Questions and Troubleshooting
How can I load the plugin for 3ds Max?
The RealFlow plugin for 3ds Max comes as a separate download. License holders can download the plug-in from the customer gateway.
Why can’t I see the RealFlow tab?
Verify that the plugin is installed correctly for your version of 3ds Max. If you have the correct version installed but still can’t see the RealFlow tab, go to Customize > Customize User Interface and check if the RealFlow tab is there. The tab should appear when clicking on the main toolbar with the right mouse button.
How can I export from 3dsMax?
Select the objects you want to export and click on the "Export to SD" icon in the RealFlow toolbar.
Why are my objects put in a wrong location when I import them to RealFlow?
It is likely that you have not applied "RESET XFORM" to all your objects in 3ds Max before exporting to an SD file. Please make sure you have applied "RESET XFORM" correctly.
What is the RealFlow workflow with 3ds Max?
To import particles, meshes, or objects you should use the corresponding icons and options. To import particles, the "Particler Loader" or "RFRK_Particler" should be used. To import meshes, the "MeshLoader" should be used. To import objects, the "SD Import" button should be used. Please see the manual for a more comprehensive explanation.
How can I import objects to 3ds Max?
When you have done a simulation in RealFlow, you can import the animation.sd to 3ds Max or you can import the individual SD files for the desired objects with the "Import SD" button, or via the File > Import menu in 3ds Max.
How can I load particles from RFRK_Particler?
"RFRK_Particler" has nodes to import from RealFlow. Please take a look at the RFRK manual to learn more about the "RFRK_Particler".
How can I blend fluids in RealFlow and 3dsMax?
If you are familiar with multi-materials in 3ds Max then please use the RealFlow "MeltMaterial". Each emitter will get its own material channel and blending is stored in the mesh by default.
