Installation - MYA

The RFRK for Maya is available for all major operating systems, and mental ray and RenderMan (both versions are bundled in the same package). For Windows and Linux, 64 bit versions are required. The installation process itself is easy and supported by installers helping you to finish this task within a few minutes. The different RFRK distributions can be downloaded from Next Limit's Customer Gateway. If you do not have an account yet, please contact Next Limit for registration and more information. Please also visit RealFlow's website periodically for information about updates and new versions.

Windows 64 bit

Download the latest RFRK version from the customer portal and run the “.exe” file to start the installer. To proceed, click on the “Next” button; if you want to abort the installation process, choose “Cancel”. The installer automatically detects the installed Maya version on your local drives and displays them in the appropriate fields.

Once you have selected your settings, install the program files. Finally, click on “Finish” to complete the installation and close the wizard.

To link the RFRK to Maya, start the software and open the "Plugin Manager". Tick the checkboxes and close the manager. Now, the RFRK tools are ready to use.

Macintosh OS X

For Macintosh's operating system there is an installer that will guide you through the entire installation process. The installer automatically detects the installed Maya version on your local drives and displays them in the appropriate fields. Choose the desired Maya version(s) and click on “Install”. The files can be found under:

 /Applications/RFRK2014/

To bind the RFRK to Maya, start the software and open the "Plugin Manager". Tick the checkboxes and close the manager. Now, the RFRK tools are ready to use.

Linux 64 bit

For Linux there are two different installers. The “deb” and “rpm” packages will install the RenderKit in the

/opt/RealflowRFRK2014

directory and will configure the Maya scripts automatically. Maya must be installed in its default directory:

/usr/autodesk/maya* (where maya* can be maya2010, maya2012-x64, maya2013, etc...)

DEB Packages

If you use a Debian or Debian-like distribution (Ubuntu, etc.), open a shell program, log in as root and enter:

# dpkg –i rfrk2014*.deb

To uninstall the RenderKit2, the command must be:

# dpkg –r rfrk2014

RPM Packages

If your Linux distribution uses RPM packages, log in as root and enter the following to the shell:

# sh rfrk2014*.rpm.sh

Once the license has been accepted, enter as root user:

rpm –Uhv rfrk2014*.rpm

To remove the RFRK, use this command:

# rpm –e rfrk2014

Please note that in Linux the RenderMan procedurals are in a separate package that has to be installed as well. The appropriate “rfrk2014-rms-procedurals*.deb/rpm” file is already part of the RFRK distribution for Maya and does not have to be downloaded separately.
