Softimage - Referenced MXS files
You can reference an external MXS (Maxwell scene file) in your SI scene, by going to Get>Primitive>Maxwell MXS Reference. This is a great way to keep your main scene as light as possible since the referenced MXS file will only be loaded at render time. You can find more details about the advantages and possibilities of MXS References here.
The referenced MXS file is represented in SI via a pointcloud. One pointcloud will be created for each MXS reference in your scene.
An MXS that is to be used as a reference cannot contain any referenced MXS files in it.
Â
Reference Options
Open the pointcloud and click the MaxwellMXSReferenceAttrs to open the customer parameters panel.
File
Choose the MXS file to load as a reference.
Sequence
You can also load an animated sequence of MXS files by checking this checkbox. The MXS files need to have the padding of: name.0001.mxs, name.0002.mxs etc.
LOD display control
To keep the viewport from slowing down too much you have a Level Of Details control (from 0-100%) for the generated pointcloud.Â
Use Embedded materials
If checked, the materials already applied to the object(s) inside the MXS will be used at render time. If unchecked, you can apply another Maxwell material which will override the ones inside the MXS.
Render Options
These settings allow you to override the visibility settings embedded in the MXS file. The default "Inherit" setting will inherit the settings from the MXS file. For more information about these visibility options, see the Objects visibility page.
