Windows
- Run the installation file and follow the installation procedure.
- The Maxwell Render 2 executable files will be added to the system path.
- Three user environment variables named MAXWELL2_ROOT, MAXWELL2_MATERIALS_ DATABASE and MAXWELL2_LICENSE_PATH pointing to the installation folder will be added. If these variables do not exist or are not created properly, the application will fail.
If the Environment variables aren't added by the installer, you need to add them manually. To do this:
- Go to Control Panel>System and Security>System and click Advanced system settings in the left hand pane to open the System Properties window.
- Click the Advanced tab in this pop-up window and then the Environment Variables button.
- In this window, under the System variables section, click New...
- For the variable name enter: MAXWELL2_ROOT
- For the variable value enter the full path to the Maxwell install folder, usually: C:\Program Files\Next Limit\Maxwell 2
- Click OK to store this new system variable
- Repeat the procedure to add the MAXWELL2_MATERIALS_DATABASE variable with the path: C:\Program Files\Next Limit\Maxwell 2\materials database
- Repeat the procedure to add the MAXWELL2_LICENSE_PATH variable pointing to the path where you want to store your license.txt file, by default: C:\Users\admin\Documents\MaxwellÂ
It is strongly recommended to install Maxwell using administrator permissions.
Mac OSX
Open the disk image and drag the Maxwell 2 folder to your Applications Directory. Install the plug-in of your 3D platform from our Customer Portal.
When launching Maxwell Render from a plug-in, it will locate Maxwell by the OSX-preferred application for MXS files. You can check this by getting information from an MXS file. If you have more than one version of Maxwell Render installed on your system, make sure it has selected the correct one.
Linux
Maxwell_2.7.20.0 is an executable file. Download it and run it, to install Maxwell wherever you want.Â
./Maxwell_2.7.20.0
The installer will create the necessary environment variables and the appropriate shortcuts in the Applications menu.Â
If you wish Maxwell to read your license from a location other than the default ($HOME/Maxwell), simply set the $MAXWELL2_LICENSE_PATH environment variable pointing to the path containing your license file.Â
You can run the installer without a GUI too.
./Maxwell_2.7.20.0 --mode console
