Version 3.2121 - March 30, 2016

Changes/Improvements

  • Improved: Better compatibility with HDR Light Studio (change in Light Studio automatically updates the FIRE window)

  • Added: support for modo 901
  • Added: new parameter "Luminosity Multiplier" has been added to modo AdvancedMaterial. It helps to control the material luminosity conversion to Maxwell.

Version 3.0200 - September 2, 2014

Changes/Improvements

  • Imporved: Environment intensity has effect on Maxwell intensity (on all environment types + also on sun power)
  • Improved: modo Lights dissolve channel has effect on the exported radiance strength.
  • Added: MXM material flag "Embed into Scene" (mxm material is normally embedded into the scene but you can choose now to only reference it).
  • Added: Plugin version checking at ArchiCad program start. The plugin informs the user about new version.
  • Added: New pluginPreference > Workflow parameter: "Check for Plugin updates at program start"
  • Changed: Intensity control was removed from the Maxwell plugin Properties Environment tab.

Version 3.0100 - Apr 21, 2014

Important Notes:

  • Old modo scene files with aperture and/or obstacle map setting: modo will search for the files at file load, because it won't find them with the old settings. Please select the files again in the file open dialog and re-save the scene.
  • Old scene files with custom export directory: Maxwell Render item setting "Export Directory" will be invalid, please browse for the custom directory again. (Otherwise it will use the default export directory.)

Changes

  • Improved: Missing files handling - in case modo can't find file path defined for Maxwell Extension item, it will offer a file open dialog at scene load.
  • Improved: Missing files handling - in case modo can't find the referenced MXS file at scene open, it will offer a file open dialog at scene load.

Fixes

  • FIXED: Menu commands: "Maxwell Manual..." and "Plugin Manual..." don't work.
  • FIXED: Directional light sun rotation (north) value is set to 0 when opened in Studio.
  • FIXED: Crashes during the FIRE session.
  • FIXED: Random crashes at FIRE start.
  • FIXED: ShaderTree Stencil map effect has inverted result.
  • FIXED: MXM shader tree item can crash modo in case the displayed texture file is in grey scale color format.

Version 3.000 - Dec 3, 2013

Dropped: support for 32-bit versions of modo.

Changes

GENERAL

  • Changed: Handles the new Maxwell license system (if it can't find valid license at modo start, it runs the license activator automatically).
  • Added: Plugin saves the actual plugin version as a Render item channel. In case plugins recognizes that scene was saved with a newer version than the actual, it gives warning message.
    Version control also checks extension items.....
  • Changed: default export directory has been removed from the plugin directory. New location is at "<user>\My Documents\Maxwell\modo" (under Windows) or "<user folder>/Maxwell/modo" (under OSX).
  • Added: Render output parameters to disable/enable output image and mxi save.
  • Improved: Image Output depth value show only the available depth values according to the file extension.
  • Changed: If there is no path set for output image or mxi, the default export path for the image files is the scene export path.

NEW MAXWELL V3 OPTIONS

  • Added: New camera parameters "Lens Type", "FOV", "Azimuth", "Angle". Lens Type can be read from modo camera (but perfect conversion is not always possible.)
  • Added: New sun parameters (Maxwell Environment item): Radius and Color.
  • Added: New object channel "Boolean".
  • Changed: Mesh Instances can have their own Maxwell Object parameters.
  • Added: OverlayText support -> you can find the text options under (select the render item first) Maxwell plugin panel > Render Output > Overlay Text.
  • Added: new channel "UV" (render item > "Channels/Layers" tab).
  • Added: new Deep channel controls (render item > "Channels/Layers" tab).

NEW MAXWELL V3 EXTENSION ITEMS

  • Added: Maxwell Extension Object - creates modo render item if possible
  • Added: Maxwell Texture
  • Added: New plugin option in Preferences -> Workflow: "Remove extension automatically" - This is important when you switch between Maxwell extensions. Plugin can keep the values of the extension you have switched from, so in case you switch back you can continue with your settings (or plugin can delete).  

FIRE IMPROVEMENTS

  • Added: New FIRE view button "F" - Click it to autofocus current camera. (Removed middle click camera focus in FIRE view.)
  • Added: It is possible to rotate/scale/move camera view in FIRE viewport. (It doesn't update the modo camera.)
  • Added: Interactive export log. Log information is automatically updated during the FIRE session as the user changes the scene, so it is easier to correct export problems.
    At the bottom of the FIRE window the plugin displays the number of the log messages (in case log is not empty).
    Click on this to see detailed export log information inside the modo "Event Log" window.
  • Improved: Modifying geometry doesn't delete the instances of the geometry
  • Improved: Mesh instances in FIRE are updated automatically.
  • Improved: Replicators in FIRE are updated automatically.  (not in modo version 501!!!)
  • Improved: FIRE refreshes for object package parameter changes.
  • Improved: FIRE refreshes for locator channel change events (but not for projection change).
  • Added: New FIRE parameter "Automatic Replicator Updates". (no effect in modo version 501!!!)
  • Changed: FIRE parameter "Geometry Update" has been renamed to "Automatic Geometry Updates" - new default value is ON.
  • Added: New fire button to save the FIRE screen into image file.

REFERENCE MXS (formerly Maxwell Proxy)

  • Changed: Maxwell Proxy has been renamed to Maxwell Reference MXS
  • Added: New item channel "Percent" - to set the percentage of the displayed vertices
  • Added: New item channels "Filter Distance" and "Maximum Distance" - with these parameters it is possible to exclude mxs scene elements or vertices outside of the distance boundary.
  • Improved: Plugin doesn't export objects with the same reference mxs file many times, instead it exports the second, third, etc. objects as instances of the first MXS Reference object.
  • Improved: Referenced MXS items can be replicator prototypes.
  • Changed: Scene bounding box is displayed as polygon box and "Scene Bounding Box" channel has been renamed to "Scene Polygon Box".
  • Improved: Reference MXS items can be fitted to scene center (normal key shift-'a' in modo).
  • Improved: New Maxwell Referenced MXS items has a base rotation according to the scene axis (so it looks up).
  • Added: New item channel "Overwrite Material". Maxwell reference MXS items can have overwrite material (material from ShaderTree).

AUTOMATIC MATERIAL EXPORT

  • Improved: automatic conversion roughness parameter export tweaked. Maxwell result is more close visually to modo original.
  • Added: Maxwell extension Material wizards. (These can be attached to modo Advanced Materials)
    In case the extension have Texture Map parameters, these parameters can be attached to ShaderTree effects, so the values (map, color or amount) will be collected form the ShaderTree according to the effect.
  • Added: Export textures created by the Substance Designer plugin. (not finished yet - do we cover all the possible formats?)
  • Improved: Plugin handles ShaderTree group masking by Selection sets
  • Changed: Automatic material export doesn't add emitter component in case emission color is black (it can prevent some export difficulties with imported fbx scenes)
  • Changed: Advanced Material - Maxwell Displacement options - "Subdivision" channel type has been changed from float to integer. New default value is 2.
  • Improved: Procedural geometries can have projected textures on their different part tags.
  • Improved: Texture locator uvRotation parameter is exported (modo 701 or above).
  • Improved: Texture locator mirror flags are exported.

Fixes

  • FIXED: (OSX): FIRE view buttons have extra large text in case display fonts are scaled.
  • FIXED: (modo 701): "Add Environment" command places the new Maxwell Environment to wrong position in shaderTree.
  • FIXED: Sky presets doesn't set the physical sky "Intensity" value.
  • FIXED: Sky presets doesn't set the "Sun display" value.

Version 2.7210

Changes

  • Added: Intensity controls for Maxwell Environment item "Physical Sky" and "Sky Dome" modes.
  • Added: modo transform properties form for Maxwell Proxy items. (not available under modo 501)
  • Changed: proxy item default orientation changed, to match the default orientation in Studio.

Fixes

  • FIXED: Plugin sets always the first camera as render camera
  • FIXED: Maxwell Proxy items are exported wrong direction (in case scene is in Y-up system).
  • FIXED: IES light are exported with wrong transformation matrix values.

Version 2.7200

KNOWN ISSUES

  • a) modo601: in case modo "Clips" (or "Images") view is visible, Maxwell sky or mxm material drag and drop can freeze modo
  • b) modo701: in case modo "Clips" view is visible, automatic texture baking (only if baking uses the "Internal" method) can freeze modo

Changes

  • New texture baking mode ADDED, because the original method was instable under modo 701. There is a new control in the plugin Preferences Window > Export tab to switch between old and new method (new method is the default).
    The new method is called "External" because baking happens in the background not on the active modo screen. In External mode user doesn't see the baking process (instead a system console window).
    Under modo 701 it is recommended to use the new "External" baking method!

  • Improved FIRE performance and stability
  • FIRE responses for mesh creation/removal (in case FIRE "Geometry Update" flag is ON)
  • Better Replicator export (not available under modo 501). The switch "Fast" or "Precise" mode has been removed because it is not needed anymore. Plugin can export replicators as those are seen in the modo viewport.
  • (Windows only) plugin automatically closes render window after automatic texture baking (only in “Internal” baking mode).

Version 2.6100

Changes

  • Maxwell Item Proxy: Better viewport display of item bounding boxes (display bounding boxes if item instances, oriented bounding boxes)

Version 2.6000

Changes

  • Middle click inside the FIRE window refocuses the camera. (Globally, not at the clicked point...)
  • Plugin opens the online Maxwell Manual instead of the offline pdf file.
  • Material Precision parameter has been renamed to Subdivision (to keep consistency with Maxwell Studio).
  • New "Position Space" parameter has been added to the render item.
  • New Displacement "Type" parameter has been added to the advancedMaterial item (you can switch between "On The Fly" and "Pretessellated" modes).
  • Added control to enable/disable the pop-up dialog which comes up after the export process (if the log file contains warning or error messages). You can find this new control in the Preferences window Export tab.
  • New replicator export mode
    We have two export mode now -> "precise" and "fast" mode. The original export mode is called "precise" mode. With the new "fast" export mode you can export replicators with high amount of data much faster (but in this mode the plugin calculates the position of the replicated items, so it won't follow the modo replicator perfectly).
  • Added: Send Job To Network button
  • Plugin uses the new Maxwell motion blur which is much faster and produces better images. You can find new MB controls in the Render item panel. With "MB steps" parameter you can set how many transformation steps the exporter uses for MB export, and with the MB offset parameter you can set when the shutter opens compared to the current frame (MB Offset=1: Shutter opens before the current frame and closes at the current frame.  MB Offset=0.5: Shutter opens before the current frame and closes after the current frame, this is how modo MB works. MB Offset=0: Shutter opens at the current frame and closes after the current frame.)
        KNOWN ISSUE: moving item with MB can freeze modo if FIRE window is on.
