Rhinoceros Installation
System Requirements
The Maxwell for Rhino plugin runs on all versions of Rhino equal or greater than Rhino 4 SR5, running on Windows. There are two versions of the installer:
Plugin | Supports | Windows 32-bit | Windows 64-bit |
---|---|---|---|
Maxwell for Rhino x86 | Rhino 4 SR5+ | ||
Rhino 5 x86 | |||
Maxwell for Rhino x64 | Rhino 5 x64 |
If you are running both Rhino 4 and Rhino 5 on the same machine, you should download and install both the x86 and x64 versions of the plugin.
Installation
Installation of the plugin is accomplished as follows:
- Make sure that Rhino is not currently running.
- Unzip the downloaded plugin to your Desktop.
- Open the unzipped folder and locate setup/setup.exe.
- Right-click setup.exe and choose Run as administrator.
- Follow the wizard instructions till the plugin has been installed.
The next time you start Rhino, you should find Maxwell for Rhino in Rhino's Render > Current Renderer menu.
Notes on Downloading and Unzipping
- When downloading, avoid the use of any 3rd-party download managers, as these may corrupt files.
- If your download appears to have been corrupted, disable any anti-virus programs and download again.
- When unzipping the download, avoid the use of 3rd-party unzip programs, as these may corrupt files.
- When installing, make sure that you use the file setup.exe, and not Maxwell.Rhino_x[86/64].msi.
Potential Issues
If Maxwell for Rhino does not appear in the Current Renderer menu, try loading the plugin manually using the following steps:
- Click File > Properties > Plug-ins > Install.
- Browse to the location where you installed the plugin.
- Select the file Maxwell.Rhino.rhp and click OK.
By default, the plugin (both x86 and x64) will install to the folder on your machine which corresponds with: C:\Program Files (x86)\MaxwellDotNET\Maxwell.Rhino. Note that this is only the default location; you may have chosen a different one during installation.
If a different type of problem occurs, note first that the plugin has the following minimum requirements:
- Windows Installer version 3.1
- Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0
- Microsoft VS2008 SP1 C++ Runtime
The installer file, setup.exe, is designed to ensure that these requirements are met. If you encounter any issue related to these requirements, make sure that you have Windows Update installed, and that your copy of Windows is properly updated. Windows Installer and the Microsoft .NET Framework can be obtained from Microsoft. The Microsoft VS2008 SP1 C++ Runtime is bundled with the installer and may be installed independently by locating and executing vcredist_x86.exe and/or vcredist_x64.exe, depending on which plugins you are trying to install.
