RealWave Modifiers

One of the strongest features of RealWave is that you can combine different modifiers to customize an ocean surface exactly to your needs.

Here is the nodes list:

 

  • 1 “RealWave” object


All scene elements can be added from RealFlow's “Edit” menu:

  • Add > RealWave
  • RealFlow nodes can be moved, scaled, and rotated with the W, R, and E keys.

  • Imported objects from SD files have to be unlocked before they can be transformed with Selected object > Node Params > Node > SD ↔ Curve

  • Viewport perspective is changed with the 1, 2, 3, and 4 keys.

  • Shading modes are toggled with the 7, 8, 9, and 0 keys.

The Setup

  • Add a RealWave surface (there cannot be more than one RealWave node in a scene)
  • Rescale the surface to your needs with the R key or the parameters under Node Params > Scale
  • Right-click on the “RealWave01” node and choose “Add Wave”
  • Add two “Fractal” and one “Ocean Statistical Spectrum” modifiers – they will appear under the “RealWave01” node
  • To get more details, select “RealWave01” and change resolution to 0.05 under Node Params > Realwave > Polygon size



Changing a Modfier's Influence

Every modifier has its own panel where you can make settings and change parameters. In order to combine different modifiers it is often necessary to limit their influence on the other surface functions. This can be done with Node Params > Modifier panel > Weight. The good thing is that it is not only possible to limit the influence of a particular modifier, but also to enhance it with values greater than 1.0

If you want to evaluate the surface without the influence of other modifiers then you can deactivate them selectively with Node Params > Modifier panel > Active > No.

With this simple workflow you can adjust each modifier individually, activate the other surface types and blend them together. When you have more than one instance of the same modifier (here: “Fractal”) then we recommend using different “Seed” values to create different initial waves distributions.

 


Some modifiers require a “Reset” in order to make parameter changes visible.

The Simulation

Click on “Simulate” to see the results. Play with different settings and values.
