Wax - SSS

Wax and in general all the organic matters have certain amount of Subsurface Scattering, allowing certain amount of light to move inside the matter, but in random paths due the constant collisions with the particles inside the medium. 

Wax is a nice example of material with SSS and it is quite easy to create. Its procedure is pretty similar to the one explained in the Peach Juice page. 

Step 1

First think about the substance you want to create as a perfect clean dielectric material. In this case we'll use a pale yellow Transmittance color, Nd=1,33 and Roughness=0. Adjust the Attenuation Distance to get the amount of tint you want for your dielectric. In this case we used 4cm and got a clean yellow dielectric.

Step 2

Then simply move down to the Subsurface Properties tab and increase the Coef value. The Coef parameters controls the amount of particles inside the medium. The lower this value, the cleaner the medium (like a dielectric), and the higher this value, the more particles in the medium (more SSS). In this case, 700 works fine. 

Adjust this parameter to get the "density" you want. 

And as wax is a glossy material, you may need to increase the Roughness value to something around 60-70%, and you're done!
