Studio doesn't show the correct number of licenses?

When Maxwell Studio gets a license.txt file containing several licenses, it only takes the first valid one, and ignores the rest. You will be able to run Maxwell Studio without any problem, as it finds it is licensed. It is its normal behavior. The other licenses are just taken into consideration by Maxwell Render itself both for individual renders as for network jobs.

Does Maxwell Studio support animation?

No, only one MXS file can be open at a time in Studio.You should create your animation in your host application which will then export an MXS file for every frame. You can open one of these files in Studio if you want to check that the scene exported correctly. That said, Studio has a simple tool to make turntable animations easily. It is explained here.

Can I change/model geometry in Studio?

No, Studio does not have any modeling tools. You can only change the position/rotation/scale of your geometry.

Should I still use Studio if my main 3D application has a Maxwell plug-in?

Studio can still be useful as a debugging tool for your MXS files generated by the plug-in. If the render doesn't look as expected you can open the MXS in Studio and check that everything is the way you intended (material assignments, camera/render settings, Physical Sky settings etc).

It can also be useful to make sure that your plug-in has exported the scene at the correct scale - see the Scene scale page for why this is important.

The file formats supported by Maxwell Render are MXS, OBJ, STL, LWO, NFF, XC2, DXF, 3DS, XML, FBX, PLY and DAE (Collada). 

How can I import a file or scene into Maxwell Render?

Save the file or scene into a format supported by Maxwell Studio and import the file into Studio. There you can create and apply materials, set up cameras and lights, and send to render.

I am getting the following error message: "Current geometry is protected and cannot be exported".

This is a fairly common warning when you are trying to export an object in an MXS file to an OBJ file in Maxwell Studio. This was made to protect the authorship of models. Within the plug-ins, when exporting to MXS you can choose to protect the geometry (thus not allowing it to be exported as an OBJ). All the old MXS files are protected by default.
