The Maxwell for SolidWorks plugin runs on all versions of SolidWorks equal or greater than version 2013 SP3.1, on Windows (Vista and up). We are only supporting 64 bits version of Solidworks.
When you download it you will get a file named: Maxwell_for_Solidworks-version #.zip
Â
It is not supported to run the plugin in a virtual machine (Parallels, VMware, VirtualBox, etc).
Installation
Installation of the plugin is accomplished as follows:
- Make sure that SolidWorks is not currently running.
- Unzip the downloaded plugin to your Desktop.
- Open the unzipped folder and locate setup/setup.exe.
- Right-click setup.exe and choose Run as administrator.
- Follow the wizard instructions till the plugin has been installed.
The next time you start SolidWorks, you should find that you have a new Maxwell item in your main menu, a new Maxwell toolbar, and a new Maxwell tab in your SolidWorks Task Pane.
Notes on Downloading and Unzipping
- When downloading, avoid the use of any 3rd-party download managers, as these may corrupt files.
- If your download appears to have been corrupted, disable any anti-virus programs and download again.
- When unzipping the download, avoid the use of 3rd-party unzip programs, as these may corrupt files.
- When installing, make sure that you use the file setup.exe, and not Maxwell.SolidWorks_x64.msi.
Potential Issues
If any unexpected issue occurs, take note that the plugin has the following minimum requirements:
- Windows Installer version 3.1
- Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0
- Microsoft VS2008 SP1 C++ Runtime
The installer file, setup.exe, is designed to ensure that these requirements are met. If you encounter any issue related to these requirements, make sure that you have Windows Update installed, and that your copy of Windows is properly updated. Windows Installer and the Microsoft .NET Framework can be obtained from Microsoft. The Microsoft VS2008 SP1 C++ Runtime is bundled with the installer and may be installed independently by locating and executing vcredist_x86.exe and/or vcredist_x64.exe, depending on which plugins you are trying to install.
Note that on some versions of Windows, it is not possible to install the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, because it is part of the operating system itself; in these cases, it is necessary to go to Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off, and enable the option .NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0).
