If the License Activator is not working for you, you can try the following options:

Activating your license manually

The process involves four steps:

1.- Find the Host ID

You need to find the host ID of the machine on which you want to activate your license. In the case of the floating licenses, it has to be the computer that is running the RLM.

The Host ID is the MAC address of the first network card and it is composed of 12 alphanumeric characters. Here are some methods to find it; please, check entry #7: Find your host ID

2.- Set the host ID for your license at the portal

Once you have the Host ID, go to your account at the portal and navigate to My Products > Purchased / assigned products and locate the license you want to activate.

If the Host ID is already set and it doesn’t match the one you found in step #1, you’ll have to contact us to get it released. If the Host ID does match the one you found, proceed to step #3

If the Host ID is not set, you’ll find an orange button to the right of your license. Click on it to set it.

It doesn’t matter if you enter all the characters without spaces, separated by spaces or colons, the system will understand them.

3.- Download the license file

Once you have assigned a Host ID to your license, you are ready to download it. The orange button has turned green. Click on it and the license file will be downloaded in a zip file:

4.- Place the license in the right folder

Once you have downloaded the license file, unzip it and copy-paste it in one of these folders depending on your system’s operating system and your license type:

FLOATING LICENSES

Please, note that if you are using floating licenses, it’s mandatory to install and use the RLM license server software (included in your product installer) on one of the machines in your network and activate the licenses on that machine.

  • Windows: C:\ProgramData\Next Limit\Maxwell\licenses\

  • MacOS: /Users/Shared/NextLimit/rlm_nl/Licenses

  • Linux: $HOME/Maxwell/

Then restart the machine or the RLM service.

Additionally, if you are going to use Maxwell on the computer that is running the RLM, also download this file: maxwell_license.zip

Unzip it and place it in this folder:

  • Windows: C:\ProgramData\Next Limit\Maxwell\licenses\v5

  • MacOS: /Users/<username>/Maxwell/v5 or Home/Maxwell/v5

  • Linux: $HOME/Maxwell/v5

If you want to connect another machine to the RLM computer so it grabs the license from it, you can use the second option of the License Activator to do so.

NODE-LOCKED LICENSES

  • Windows: C:\ProgramData\Next Limit\Maxwell\licenses\v5 (if you cannot find the v5 folder, just create it manually)

  • MacOS: /Users/<username>/Maxwell/v5 or Home/Maxwell/v5

  • Linux: $HOME/Maxwell/v5

Once copied, Maxwell should be licensed without having to use the License Activator

I cannot find the folder! On Windows, the license path is usually hidden, but always exists. You can copy and paste the path in the File Explorer address bar and it will take you there or activate the “Hidden items” checkbox in the View tab:

Still not working?

In the case of the floating licenses, most probably the RLM server is not running.

In the case of the node-locked licenses, the most common error is having set a wrong host ID.

Please, contact support. Create a new support case from your portal account or use this contact form.
