Instances panel

This panel lists the instances of the selected object. Instances can be generated in your 3d platform via plug-ins, or directly in Studio (by selecting the object and choosing Instance in the Objects List right-click menu).

For more information about using instances in Studio see the Working with objects and instances in Studio page.

The Instances List ad its right-click contextual menu

The right-click contextual menu allows you to:

  • Rename: Rename an instance.
  • Remove: Remove an instance.
  • Display Proxy (%): Specify how many instances should be displayed in the viewport, by percentage. This is useful if you have an object that has thousands of instances attached to it, and displaying all of them in the viewport will slow it down considerably. If you set the Display Proxy to 10% and you have 100 instances, every 10th instance will be displayed, still allowing you to get a good idea of where the instances are placed.
  • Display Mode: Choose between display no instance, only the instances of the selected object(s), or all the instances in the scene.
  • Shading: Different shading modes for your instance in the viewport (pivot, bounding box, wireframe, shaded or textured). By default it is set to Bounding Box.

The default Display Proxy, Display mode and Shading settings can be set from Maxwell Studio preferences (Edit>Preferences>Instances)
