Licensing Wizard

The “License Wizard” is a convenient tool for simplifying RealFlow's licensing process. If you have installed and licensed RealFlow 2014 successfully already then you do not have to take any actions. New users and holders of a demo license should read through the following chapters to learn how to use this wizard. We have added a table of contents here for your convenience. Just click on a link to get to the desired section:

Launching RealFlow for the First Time

When you start RealFlow for the first time, the “License Wizard” appears and you can decide which license type you want to install.

I want to try the demo version

To run RealFlow in demo mode, simply choose this option. The wizard will create a temporary license, valid for 30 days.

After this period, a license error will appear.

Then you can decide how to proceed. If you want to purchase a license, just choose “I want to purchase a license”, and follow the displayed steps. If you have purchased a node-locked or floating license already, and downloaded it from the “Customer Gateway” please proceed with the licensing process.

I have a node-locked license

When you choose this option the wizard assumes that you have already received a valid license file and stored it on your computer. If you do not know how to request a license file please read this page.

A node-locked license is linked to one computer permanently and it cannot be used on other machines. If you have more than one computer please decide which one you want to use before you request the license. It is very important that you use the correct “hostid” for creating the license, because this is irreversible.

To install the license file

  • choose “I have a node-locked license”

  • browse to the path where you have stored the license file from the “Customer Gateway”

  • click on “Finish” to complete the licensing process

I have a floating license already installed and running on a RLM license server

When you choose this option the RLM license manager application must be installed and running. Additionally, this method requires that you have already purchased and downloaded your floating license from the “Customer Gateway”. If the license file is not stored on your computer, please follow the steps in this chapter.

When the RLM is running, please follow the steps in the next window:

  • Enter the IP address of the computer where the RLM is running under “Host name”.
  • By default, the RLM uses port 5053 and this is exactly the number you have to add here.
  • Click on “Finish” to complete the licensing process.

It could be that you have multiple RLM instances running, because other applications use this technology as well. In this case you might need a different port. Please check out this page to learn how to assign a new port to RealFlow's RLM manager.

I have a floating license and I want to install and run the RLM license server on this machine

This method requires that you have already purchased and downloaded your floating license from the “Customer Gateway”. If you have a floating license, but the RLM license manager has not been installed yet then this is the right option for you. Also if you want to install a dedicated RealFlow RLM server you should choose this method. If the license file is not stored on your computer, please follow the steps in this chapter.

Please bear in mind that this process requires admin rights under Windows. RealFlow can be launched with full administrator rights by right-clicking on RealFlow icon. Simply choose “Run as administrator”.

When you click on “Next” a new screen appears:

  • Browse to the path where the license file is stored.
  • Click on “Finish” to complete the installation process
  • To check if the RLM manager has been installed correctly, please open a web browser and enter the IP address of the computer where the RLM is running together with its port 5054, e.g. http://192.168.2.100:5054

I want to purchase a license

First, thank you for purchasing a RealFlow license! When you purchase a license then the machine's so-called “hostid” is required (the Id in the screenshot is an example). If you want to install RealFlow on a different machine please follow the instructions from this page.

  • To finally purchase a license click on “Click here to go to the RealFlow...”.

  • Once we have confirmed your purchase you can create and download the license file, and proceed with the installation process by choosing one of the previous options in this wizard.

I need to find the hostid of this machine

The "hostid" is required for the node-locked and floating licenses (the Id in the screenshot is an example). With this Id your final licenses will be created, so please make sure that you are using the correct one, because it is different for every computer. Once the Id has been added to your license it cannot be changed anymore – this process is final. In the “Customer Gateway” of RealFlow's website you have to enter the “hostid” and claim your license file. The file will be stored on your computer and can use the wizard again to install it. To get the Id for a different computer, please click here.

Users of the demo version do not need the “hostid”.
