RLM is widely spread and many applications use it for licensing.

The Hostid

The hostid is a hardware-specific code and required for the licensing process. You need the hostid of the computer where the RLM server is/will be running:

  • Open a terminal program and type the following line (substitute XX through the actual version number: 15, 16, or 17):
  • OS X: "/Applications/MAXON/CINEMA 4D RXX/plugins/nextlimit/RealFlow/rlm/rlmhostid" -ether
  • Windows: C:\Program Files\Next Limit\RealFlow Cinema4D 1\rlm\rlmhostid -ether
  • An alphanumeric code appears (example only - the hostid of your computer will be different):

Installing a New RLM

  • It is only necessary to install one instance of RLM on your entire network and not on each of the computers that will run RealFlow | Cinema 4D.
  • Write down the IP address of the computer where the RLM is going to be installed.

The RLM installer server comes bundled with RealFlow | Cinema 4D and will be installed under:

  • OS X: /Applications/MAXON/CINEMA 4D...Cinema RXX/plugins/nextlimit/RealFlow/rlm
  • Windows: C:\Program Files\Next Limit\RealFlow Cinema4D 1\rlm

For a complete installation and configuration guide please go to:

Using An Existing RLM

To check if there is a RLM server running on your machine, open a browser and enter the following address: ip_of_the_computer_with_rlm:5054
For example 192.168.2.2:5054 (example - use the actual IP of your computer!)

  • In this case, look for the installation directory of the already installed RLM.
  • The nextlimit.set file comes bundled with the RealFlow | Cinema 4D installer and has to be copied to
    OS X: /Applications/MAXON/CINEMA 4D...Cinema RXX/plugins/nextlimit/RealFlow/rlm
    Windows: C:\Program Files\Next Limit\RealFlow Cinema4D 1\rlm
  • Restart the RLM service.
