This section provides effective methods to reduce the number of polygons. Especially with view dependent scenes, a reduction of polygons is a perfect way to decrease render times.

Optimize

This entry provides three options:

  • “No” disables any optimization.
  • “Camera” depends on the current view. Areas closer to the camera have higher resolution, while distant parts show reduced quality.
  • “Curvature” removes polygons in flat areas.

Merge Iterations

This parameter specifies the number of optimization cycles and depends on “@Ite “Ite Threshold”. With each iteration pass, RealFlow tries to remove more polygons, but always related to “@ Ite “Ite Threshold”. With large “@ Merge “Merge Iterations” the mesh will shrink.

Optimize camera

Here you can select a camera for use with the “Camera” option under “Optimize”. This camera can also be animated to create a dynamic view-dependent mesh.

Ite Threshold

This parameter is closely related to “@ Merge “Merge Iterations” and can be seen as a trigger. Higher values are used to remove more polygons, but also decrease the mesh’s quality. The standard setting is a good starting point.

Face subdivision

When active, new faces will be added to the mesh, creating a smoother look. After this process, some parts of the mesh might show a characteristic pattern. We recommend applying filters and instead of “@ Face “Face subdivision”.

Sub Threshold

You can specify a certain trigger value to start the process of subdividing a mesh’s faces, but in most cases, this value has no influence on the final result.
